2010 General Election - Press Release In response to the Guardian announcing its support for the LibDems in the election Cllr David Morrish has sent this comment. Reference to your leading article “The liberal moment has come” Dear Sir, It is very sad to see that the “Guardian” can no longer be read as a dependable journal of radical opinion. Perhaps I have held you in too high regard to believe that you would fall for the vacuous campaignng of Nick Clegg. Paddy Ashdown has now made it clear beyond any doubt (Election Interview, 1st May) that Clegg has moved his party “to what you might call the right,” moving away from the social liberalism of the old Liberal Party. The old Liberal Party is still on the scene, at the present time concentrating its efforts on the local elections. In the far off days of 1988, Paddy Ashdown likened the continuing Liberal Party to a guerilla band up in the hills. Well, I think Paddy has sounded the warning and we will be responding to it.
