2009 Local Council election results

Having the local elections the same day as the European elections showed again what low regard the Government has for local democracy. The Conservatives were just as bad with David Cameron asking that these elections be a referendum on Gordon Brown. The Liberal Party believes the local elections should not be joined with others but should be a focus for people to concentrate on the issues that affect their daily lives and are the responsibility of local government. The media could also assist by criticising national politicians who divert attention from the real purpose of local government.
