Three Vice Presidents appointed

The National executive Committee (NEC) of The Liberal Party recently appointed, Cllr David Morrish, Cllr Joan Morrish and Mrs Theresia Williamson as Life Vice Presidents of The Liberal Party.

On Thursday 14th April Liberals from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset assembled in Silverton to congratulate Cllrs David and Joan Morrish on their appointment as Life Vice Presidents of the party.

Cllr Fran Oborski, Chairman of the NEC, presented the certificate to David and Joan and thanked them for their commitment to Liberalism and the Liberal Party. Both David and Joan have served for many years on the National Executive Committee and worked very hard, often behind the scenes to ensure that The Liberal Party remained a force in British politics.

Cllr Stephen Radford, President of The Liberal Party, sent a message in which he said: “on behalf of Liberal Party members I would like to express our appreciation to David and Joan. They have been our inspiration defying every prediction of those who said that the Liberal Party would sink without trace. They have ensured that we can keep the flame of Liberalism alive and well for future generations.”

Daniel Wood, Chairman of the Liberal Party Policy Committee also sent a message in which he said: “I hope that they both see that the events of the past year show that they were right to remain within the Liberal Party. The coalition is hardly fighting tooth and nail to preserve radical liberal attitudes, nor is it Dingle Foot’s party of the left.”

Cllr Morrish thanked the assembled (note, Liberals assemble!) gathering for their good wishes and reflected on the difficulties and achievements experienced over the past twenty years. Concluding, David said that he was very pleased that Liberals were now coming home, leaving the illiberal Liberal democrats. “Our task,” he said, “had been to keep the Liberal Party in one piece ready for the time when Liberalism could once again become a radical force in British politics.”
