Dear Editor
Nurse Margaret Haywood performed a public service by exposing serious faults in the care of vulnerable people. It is appalling that she should be struck off.
Rather than punish her, The Nursing and Midwifery Council recognised the faults and called for more rigorous procedures.
What steps have been taken to punish the management who not only missed the problems but allowed them to continue after Margaret Heywood had alerted them.
Anyone whose genuine concerns have been ignored will now be scared to be a whistleblower in case they lose their livelihood and their family suffers as a result.
By their actions The Nursing and Midwifery Council have put vulnerable people at risk, not just in hospitals but the increasing numbers of elderly in care homes.
