PRESS RELEASE

Liberal Party Councillors Urged to Support Operation Black Vote

obv

Meeting in Westminster on Saturday 7th June members of the National Executive of the Liberal Party, passed a unanimous motion urging all councils and in particular Liberal Party Councillors to work with Operation Black Vote to establish Councillor mentoring schemes.

The aim being to encourage the participation of young Black and other minority communities into the political life of the country.

Reporting Back to the NEC, Party President and Liverpool City Liberal Party Group leader, Steve Radford said he was extremely impressed with the professionalism and depth of commitment OBV had shown.

His only word of caution was that Liberals should also seek such schemes be extended to all young people, not just the BME communities as alienation was rife.

He pointed out that the Liberal Party had for years run mentoring schemes for young politics and media students, however the OBV model gave a more robust approach and utilised the resources of local councils and most importantly the BME community Groups
